John Karl Fredrich For Congress
Hello, again, Fellow Voters:
In the important upcoming June 7th primary elections, the midterm Congressional election to select who will represent us in the 118th Congress requires that we weigh the gravity of our vote in the light of any number of real emergencies. With our systems of government under challenge from disparate directions – healthcare stresses, inflation and economic uncertainty, turbulence in foreign affairs, and political gridlock – against a background threat of climate change and worsening calamitous environmental events, it is imperative that we as a people evaluate the situation as if our lives depended on the choices we make, since, in a very real sense, that is the case.
The worst mistake, from my viewpoint, of course would be to go for the old self-fulfilling prophecy, “I won’t vote for you because you can’t win”. Replace that with . . . “If I do vote for you, you will win!” That is, you and many others, especially those who have withdrawn from the political arena because of its unsavory odor and outcomes. Think highly of yourself and your agency in determining our mutual future, and of my chances to carry the day June 7th and then on into November if you support me.
Ask yourself, “What does Anna Eshoo want to do that she hasn’t been able to do over the last 30 years?”
And then let me ask you, “What would you like to see happen and how can we unclog the mechanisms of government to get that done?”
This campaign hopes to give everyone an opportunity to reflect on
these issues in order to provoke helpful changes. Here is my ballot statement which highlights the matters I want to see addressed in the June 7th election.
2022 Ballot Statement
Representative to Congress
California District #16
The national government of the United States is failing in its basic Constitutional responsibility of ‘insuring domestic Tranquility’ and ‘promoting the general Welfare’. The wants and needs of the many
are poorly represented in Congress.
America’s voters need to reaffirm the principles of majority rule with full minority rights if our Constitutional framework is to endure. The current unacceptable two party system allows incumbents, expert at not taking stands, to avoid the hard work they are elected to do.
I support universal, single-payer healthcare, public-funded education from preschool through community college, creation of housing for those in need, and a substantial reduction in military spending, together with increased taxes on the wealthy and stronger Internal Revenue Service enforcement on tax avoiders. Furthermore, I think support for one person/one vote needs strengthening and federal supervision of national elections needs to be the law. We must end subsidies to petroleum companies and demonstrate better stewardship for land, water and forest resources on all public lands.
On the issue of nuclear weapons, I advocate leadership for incremental disarmament and compliance with all international treaties on nonproliferation and war crimes. The US needs a national gun registration database to be called The Well-Regulated Militia Firearm Survey that will require registration of all legal guns and formal written responses from owners as to whether they are willing to serve in a militia. We need roll call votes on clean bills for all of this.
